S (Saad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! 3 It seems strange to the pagans that a man from their own people should come to them as a Prophet. The unbelievers have said, "He is only a lying magician". 4 What, has he made the gods One God? This is indeed a wondrous thing' 5 A group of the pagans walked out of a meeting with the Prophet and told the others, "Let us walk away. Be steadfast in the worship of your gods. This man wants to dominate you. 6 We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 "Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment! 8 Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates. 11 The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, 12 And (the tribe of) Thamud, and the folk of Lot, and the dwellers in the wood: these were the factions. 13 Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, 14
