As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 Devils divert men from the [right] way, while they think that they are rightly guided. 37 Until when he comes before Us he will say (to the devil): "Would to God there was a distance of the East and West between you and me, for you were an evil companion!" 38 And it will profit you not today, because ye have done wrong, that ye are in the torment sharers. 39 Can you [Prophet] make the deaf hear? Or guide either the blind or those who are in manifest error? 40 We shall inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from the world (before We do that), 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the right path, 43 it is certainly a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be called to account. 44 And question thou our messengers whom We sent before thee; did We appoint any deities other than (Allah) Most Gracious, to be worshipped? 45
