Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7

We also sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his Council, and he said, 'Surely, I am the Messenger of the Lord of all Being.' 46 But as soon as he came before them with Our [miraculous] signs, lo! they derided them, 47 (Even though) each miracle that We showed them was greater than the other. So We seized them with chastisement so that they may turn back. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 And Fir'awn proclaimed among his people, saying: O my people! is not mine the dominion of Misr and witness yonder rivers flowing underneath me? See ye not? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 He incited his people to levity and they obeyed him. Surely they were an iniquitous people. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
