And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 But when he came to them with Our Signs, behold they ridiculed them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: O magician! call on your Lord for our sake, as He has made the covenant with you; we shall surely be the followers of the right way. 49 but when We relieved them of the torment, they broke their word. 50 And said Firaun, “O my people! Is not the kingdom of Egypt for me, and these rivers that flow beneath me? So do you not see?” 51 Am I (not) better than him who is contemptible, and cannot even express himself clearly? 52 Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? 53 Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah). 54 So when they made Us wrathful, We took revenge from them – We therefore drowned all of them. 55 And We made them a precedent and example to the later generations. 56
