Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
