Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
