(O Prophet), did the story of Abraham's honoured guests reach you? 24 When they came to him and said, “Peace”; he answered, “Peace”; and thought, “These people are not familiar.” 25 Then he turned to his household, so brought out a roasted calf [as the property of Ibrahim (Abraham) was mainly cows]. 26 and laid it before them, saying: “Will you not eat?” 27 He felt afraid of them; but they said: "Have no fear," and gave him the good news of a wise son. 28 Then his wife came forward with a loud voice, she smote her face, and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing." 30 ۞ [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Then for what purpose you have come, O Messengers?" 31 They replied: “Behold, we have been sent to a wicked people 32 To send down upon them stones of baked clay. 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 So We brought the believers out of that they were in. 35 But We found in it only one household of those who had surrendered themselves, 36 And We left behind therein a portent for those who fear a painful doom. 37 There is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' 39 So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. 40 There is another sign in the [tribe of] 'Ad, when We sent against them a life-destroying wind 41 It left nothing whatever that it came up against, but reduced it to ruin and rottenness. 42 And in Thamud (there is also a sign), when they were told: "Enjoy yourselves for a while!" 43 But in their pride they turn away from the commandment of their Lord and the thunderbolt struck them whilst they were looking; 44 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. 45 [We destroyed] the people of Noah before them. They were certainly a sinful people. 46
