The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
