The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and the Book inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the Visited House, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
