The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
