The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
