The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
