When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
