The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
