۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
