EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say: 'He is a poet, we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him' 30 Proclaim, “Go on waiting – I too am waiting along with you.” 31 Enjoin them their understandings to this? or are they a people conumacious? 32 Do they say, "He has falsely invented it (the Quran)?" In fact, they themselves have no faith. 33 But then, [if they deem it the work of a mere mortal,] let them produce another discourse like it - if what they say be true! 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing! 36 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the treasurers? 37 Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof. 38 What! The daughters for Him, and the sons for you? 39 Or is it that [they who reject thy message, O Muhammad, fear lest] thou ask of them a reward, so that they would be burdened with debt [if they should listen to thee]? 40 Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down? 41 Or desire they to outwit? The unbelievers, they are the outwitted. 42 Is theirs a god beside Allah? Hallowed be Allah from that which they associate! 43 Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!" 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars! 49
