EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?" 30 Say: 'Wait if you will; I shall be waiting with you' 31 Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people? 32 Do they say, "He has falsely invented it (the Quran)?" In fact, they themselves have no faith. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Or have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact they are certain of nothing. 36 Or are thy Lord's treasuries in their keeping? Or are they the registrars? 37 Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate! 43 Even if they were to see a part of the heavens falling down upon them, they would say, "It is only dense cloud". 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped. 46 For the harmdoers there is indeed, a punishment before that, but most of them do not know. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 And in the night also hallow Him, and at the setting of the stars. 49
