(Muhammad), remind them, by the Grace of your Lord, that you are neither a soothsayer or an insane person. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Are with them the treasures of thy Lord! or are they the dispensers? 37 Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority. 38 Or, [if you believe in God, how can you believe that] He has [chosen to have] daughters, whereas you yourselves would have [only] sons? 39 Do you (Muhammad) ask them for any payment (for your preaching) which they cannot afford? 40 Or do they have knowledge of the Unknown which they write down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Have they, then, any deity other than God? Utterly remote is God, in His limitless glory, from anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 43 Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!" 44 Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck, 45 The Day when their guile shall not relieve them a thing, and they shall not be helped. 46 And there surely awaits the evildoers a chastisement beyond even that, but most of them know it not. 47 Be patient, then, (O Prophet), until the judgement of your Lord comes. For surely you are before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
