Therefore remind! by thy Lord's blessing thou art not a soothsayer neither possessed. 29 Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?" 30 Proclaim, “Go on waiting – I too am waiting along with you.” 31 Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk? 32 Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! 33 So let them bring a single discourse like it, if they are truthful. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty. 36 Are with them the treasures of thy Lord! or are they the dispensers? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or has He daughters while you have sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Do they possess knowledge of the unseen, so that they can write it down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Do they have another god besides God? God is too exalted to be considered equal to the idols. 43 AND YET, if they [who refuse to see the truth] were to see part of the sky falling down, they would [only] say: "[It is but] a mass of clouds!" 44 Hence, leave them alone until they face that [Judgment] Day of theirs, when they will be stricken with terror: 45 Their deception will not avail them in the least on that day, nor will they be helped. 46 The unjust will suffer other torments besides this but most of them do not know. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
