The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
