The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
