The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
