The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
