The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him was with body and soul.) 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
