The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
