The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
