The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
