The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
