The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 and taught to him 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
