The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
