The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 But then We never send the angels down save with the purpose (of enforcing their doom), after which they will not be given more respite. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
