The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then came down close 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
