HAST THOU, then, ever considered him who turns away [from remembering Us, and cares for no more than the life of this world,] 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Is with him knowledge of the unseen so that he seeth? 35 Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses- 36 and of Abraham, who to his trust was true: 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 nor can man achieve anything without hard labor. 39 and that his labouring shall surely be seen, 40 Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense 41 And that to your Lord is the goal- 42 that it is He who brings laughter and tears; 43 And that it is He who causes death and gives life 44 And that He createth the pair, the male and the female. 45 from a discharged living germ 46 and that He will bring about the Second Creation; 47 That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction; 48 and that He is the Lord of (the star) Sirius, 49 That it was He who destroyed the 'Ad of old, 50 Thamud, 51 as well as the people of Noah before them - [since,] verily, they all had been most willful in their evildoing and most overweening 52 And that it is He Who threw down the upturned townships? 53 So there covered them that which covered. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 Why do you laugh rather than weep? 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 So prostrate yourselves before Allah and worship. ۩ 62
