The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
