The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah, who lived before them, had also rejected (Our guidance). They rejected Our servant and said, "He is an insane person so let us drive him away". 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
