The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." 8 ۞ The people of Noah, who lived before them, had also rejected (Our guidance). They rejected Our servant and said, "He is an insane person so let us drive him away". 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
