The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Nuh (Noah) denied (their Messenger) before them, they rejected Our slave, and said: "A madman!" and he was insolently rebuked and threatened. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
