He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
