Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
