The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
