The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
