The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Beneficent (God) 1 who taught the Quran -- 2 He created man, 3 and He taught him speech. 4 The sun and moon rotate in a predestined orbit. 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 And Allah has raised the sky; and He has set the balance. 7 so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right]: 8 And establish the measures justly, nor decrease the due weight. 9 He set down the earth for the creation. 10 Therein is fruit and palms having sheathed clusters, 11 And grain chaffed and other food. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He created man from clay like that of earthenware. 14 and jinn from the many colored flames of fire. 15 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 18 He hath loosed the two seas. They meet. 19 but has created a barrier between them so that they will not merge totally. 20 Which of the wonders of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 21 There cometh forth from both of them the pearl and coral-stone. 22 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 23 Also, His are the ships that run, raised up like mountains upon the sea. 24 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 25
