The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
