The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
