S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. 2 Many a generation We did destroy before them – thereupon they cried out whereas it is not the time to escape! 3 They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 And their leaders went about, “Leave him and cling steadfastly to your Gods! Indeed he has a hidden objective in this!” 6 We have not heard this in the religious community close to our time. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or are theirs the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Mighty, the Bestower? 9 Or, is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that which is in-between the twain? If so, let them ascend by steps. 10 this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. 11 Before them, the people of Nooh had denied, and the tribe of A’ad, and Firaun who used to crucify. 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. 14
