The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and shade extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
