The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
