We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 But as soon as he came before them with Our [miraculous] signs, lo! they derided them, 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh issued a call to his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion over Egypt belong to me, since all these running waters flow at my feet? Can you not, then, see [that I am your lord supreme]? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 Why have no armlets of gold been given him, or angels sent down successively with him' 53 So he made his people unsteady, and they obeyed him; surely they were an ungodly people. 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples. 56
