The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
