The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those that pray 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
